유나는 작가 입니다
(yoona neun jakka ibnida)
유나는 작가 입니다 translates to “Yoona is a writer.”
Yoona is a Korean-American writer who aims to subvert traditional tropes about the Korean diaspora. She is interested in how characters of the Korean diaspora during oft-forgotten historical periods survive through war, imperialism, and exile.
Her debut novel-in-progress, Red Sun Bleed With Me is a magical realism coming-of-age tale. Set during the pre WWW-II Japanese occupation of Korea and adapting the traditional folktale of the gumiho (nine-tailed fox), her novel threads the perspectives of her protagonist and those who affect her life. While she grows up during the oppressive occupation, she learns to her own power and grapple with her identity as both magical creature and nationalist rebel.
A graduate of American University’s Creative Writing MFA, her honors and distinctions include a 2025 residency from Ragdale Foundation, fellow of Tin House’s 2025 Winter Workshop, and 2024 semifinalist of the Marianne-Russo Novel in Progress Award by the Key West Literary Seminar.
Her work has been published in Poet Lore, The Rumpus, and Stylus (print only).
